SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine— The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) Athletics Department has announced Chuck Ott as Head Golf Coach effective today, April, 26.

Ott begins his first golf coaching stint as an “avid golfer that enjoys the challenges of the game.” Coach Ott resides in South Portland and is an instructor in the Art Department at the college. As a 10-year faculty member at SMCC, Ott also serves as the Beacon Faculty Advisor and a member of the Core Team of the institution’s Achieve The Dream student success initiatives.

Hailing from Haddon Township, N.J., Ott earned his bachelor’s degree at Portland School of Art and completed his graduate work in Fine Art at Montana State University in 1992.

Ott commented, “I look forward to helping SMCC golfers move towards their potential on the golf course as well as in academics and life. Considering the nature of the game, one that shows us what we need to work on, I’m excited to guide our students as they develop their skills on the course and meet the challenges they face during play.”

Director of Athletics Matt Richards spoke on his recent hire, “Coach Ott will bring a creative flare to course management strategies. His passion and enthusiasm will help drive and motivate our student-athletes on and off the links. A wonderful resource at the college, his presence on campus will positively support the program in all facets.”

The SeaWolves golf program calls Purpoodock Golf Club its home course as part of a six-match schedule in the fall semester. SMCC finished as Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) runners-up in the previous two seasons.
