CONCORD, N.H.— The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) golf team took second place at Beaver Meadow Golf Course on Saturday, Sept. 9 in its first Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) tournament of 2017, hosted by New Hampshire Technical College (NHTI).

NHTI scored a team low 360 to win the tournament, followed by the Seawolves 35 strokes behind. The University of Maine at Augusta (UMA) and Great Bay Community College were also in attendance but were disqualified from team scoring with too few golfers. NHTI’s Taylor Post and UMA’s Evan Kordalski each recorded an 80 to place first individually.

SMCC first-year Hunter Carignan (Rollinsford, N.H.) finished as a third-place medalist firing an 83 amongst a field of 13 golfers. Sophomore Kevin Dwyer (Hanover, N.H.) carded a 92 and first-years McKenze Coyne (Gorham, Maine) and Tyler Hensley (Tupper Pains, Ohio) contributed with a 109 and 111.

Head Coach Ethan Wells reflected, “It’s good to get this one under our belt. For three that scored today, it was their first collegiate tournament. We’re back at the same track in two weeks, when we look to improve our score. The focus this week is making the individual adjustments to shave strokes at Val Halla.”

The SeaWolves take the course again on Sunday, Sept. 17, this time at Val Halla Golf Course in Cumberland, Maine. The same four YSCC teams will be represented with tee times beginning 11:30 am.
