2023 Golf Schedule Announced

2023 Golf Schedule Announced

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine— The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) golf program will play an 8-match regular season schedule in pursuit of a third straight Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) title in 2023.

The Seawolves open their season at The Links at Outlook on the final day of August before meeting at Waterville Country Club to open September at an event hosted by Thomas College (NCAA Div. 3). SMCC begins conference competition at Beaver Meadow Golf Club (Concord, N.H.) on Sept. 9th, in conjunction with a two-day women’s circuit hosted by Bowdon College (NCAA Div. 3).

The reigning champions host the first of two matches at Purpoodock Golf Club (Cape Elizabeth) on Sept. 14, before returning to Waterville Country Club two days later for an event hosted by University of Maine at Farmington (NCAA Div. 3). SMCC travels to Spring Meadows Golf Club (Gray) on Sept. 21st and then rounds out the regular season at Purpoodock again on the 24th.

This year’s conference championship is hosted by York County Community College at Cape Neddick Golf Club (Cape Neddick) on Oct. 1st. Should the program qualify, the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) two-round National Tournament is scheduled at Penn State University for Oct. 8-9th.

Head Coach AJ Burton returns for his third year at the helm detailing a positive season outlook.

“It's an exciting time for our Seawolves golf program! We bring back a core group of returners that had amazing postseason success in 2022, finishing 6th overall in national tournament play; and we welcome a talented group of incoming freshmen and the start-up of a women’s program!

Alex Leupold and Zach Tremblay will lead the charge. Both returners earned All-Conference recognition last season—both were in contention for Golfer of the Year performances as well. Remy Levin and Aubray Lincoln complete the list of returners, both with the capability to create impact on the scoring team! I’m excited to watch this group build with more confidence to meet both individual and team goals we have set.

The incoming men’s class will include Lucas Inman, Landon LaPoint, Quinn Dillon, Owen Lee, Quincy Seavey, Asa Buteau, and Owen Parent. All of whom come with plenty of golf experience at the high school level, demonstrating success during their playing careers.

The women entering their first year at SMCC will complete our very first women’s golf program, following the commitment from Remy last season. Sydney Pergerson, Jessica Spratt, and Delaney Blake will compete in YSCC matches, the Bowdoin Invitational, and the USCAA Women's National Invitational should we qualify. I have no doubt this group will set the stage for the continued success of women’s golf at SMCC.”
