Men’s Soccer Records Two Conference Wins

On Saturday, the men's soccer team traveled to Unity College for a Yankee Small College Conference match-up.  After a scoreless first half, the Seawolves overcame the cold and wet conditions to win 2-1.

The first goal was scored by junior midfielder Kyle Ehlers (Ludlow, VT) off an assist from sophomore Wadhah Al-Shammari (Portland, ME). Two freshmen finished things off for the Seawolves.  Forward Brandon Saucier (Portland, ME) fed midfielder Kyle Stiefken (Vassalboro, ME) for the winning goal.

The Seawolves out-shot Unity 15 to 13. Freshman goalie Robby Griffin (Union, ME) protected the net and recorded 2 saves.

On Sunday, the men returned to South Portland to host Northern Maine Community College (NMCC).  The Seawolves beat NMCC 1-0. The winning goal was scored by sophomore Wadhah Al-Shammari (Portland, ME) off of a penalty kick in the 67th minute.

Freshman goalie Dakota Bush (Casco, ME) recorded 4 saves during his 90 minutes in goal.

The Seawolves are now 6-2 overall and 6-1 in the Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC). Halfway through the season, SMCC is 2nd in the YSCC East Division standings. The Seawolves' lone conference loss came to the current first place team, UMaine-Machias (6-0).

The men play today at home against Bridgton Academy, with game time slated for 4:00 PM.
