Men’s Soccer Loses to Machias 4-3

Cape Elizabeth, ME. The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's soccer team lost 4-3 this afternoon against conference foe UMaine-Machias.  It was a physical and fast battle the entire 90 minutes. The teams are currently 1st (Machias) and 2nd (SMCC) in the standings of the Yankee Small College Conference East Division.

The Seawolves owned the first half and found themselves up 2-0 at halftime. The first goal came in the 31st minute from freshman Matt McClure (Buxton, ME) and was assisted by freshman Jacob Smith (Gorham, ME). The second goal was just seven minutes later when freshman midfielder Jake Freemen (Fayette, ME) found the back of the net.

Machias took the second half, scoring goals in the 55th, 65th, 70th and 72nd minute.  They were up 4-2 before scoring an own goal to make it 4-3.

Freshmen goalie Robby Griffin (Union, ME) recorded 7 saves in the first 72 minutes for the Seawolves. Dakota Bush (Casco, ME) finished the time in goal and tallied 1 save.

The Seawolves move to 8-4 overall and 8-2 in conference play. The next game is on the road as the men travel to Central Maine Community College on Monday, October 8. Game time is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
