Seawolves Defeat Dean College in Double OT

Seawolves Defeat Dean College in Double OT

Franklin, Massachusetts SMCC's Michael Curtis (Ellsworth, ME) scored on a volley at the 105 minute mark after opponent Dean College failed to clear the ball from a corner kick to give SMCC a 2-1 victory, their first over Dean since Coach Brian Dougher took over the soccer program nine years ago.

Dean got off to a quick start with a goal by Alex Bedrosian (Smithfield, RI) at the 1:08 mark but remained scoreless for the rest of the game due to the efforts of SMCC goalkeeper Josh McDuffie (South Portland, ME) who ended the contest with 23 saves. With nine minutes remaining in the second half Layne Kearney-Graffam (Westbrook, ME) assisted Nicolas Oram (Topsham, ME) who chipped the Dean goalkeeper from twenty yards out to send the game into overtime.

With this win the Seawolves improve to 1-0-0 overall and 0-0-0 in conference play while the Dean College Bulldogs drop to 0-1-0.

SMCC will return to action Wednesday, September 4th at Bridgton Academy.
