Seawolves Edge Rams, Earn Postseason Home Game

South Portland - In this afternoon's final regular season soccer contest both the Seawolves and the Rams of Unity College were fighting for more than just a victory, the winner of today's contest would earn the right to host next weeks' YSCC quarterfinal game. The Seawolves were able to get off nearly twice the amount of shots, 24-13, as Unity and it paid off as they edged the Rams by one goal, 2-1.

Entering halftime Unity found themselves in the drivers' seat, leading 1-0 due to an early goal by forward Richard Lee at the 14:08 mark. Thirteen minutes into second half action a hectic cluster in front of the Unity net resulted in an Adam Finik (Durham, ME) goal to tie the score 1-1. Everyone around the field could feel the tension rising as both teams began playing with a renewed sense of urgency in the final thirty, knowing how much the next goal meant. With just ten minutes remaining in regulation Seawolves' midfielder Sean Jackson (Berwick, ME) found forward Steve Rwendeye (Kigali, Rawanda) sprinting down the left side of the field, Jackson placed the ball perfectly and Rwendeye chipped the ball past the Unity keeper and into the right corner of the net. After numerous close calls by the Unity attackers in the final ten minutes, the Seawolves defense were able to hold the Rams scoreless and earn the right to host next week's quarterfinal contest.

The quarterfinal contest will be a rematch of this afternoon's game as the Seawolves will host the Rams on Tuesday at 3pm.
