Seawolves Down Rams, Advance to Semifinals

South Portland -  In tonight's YSCC quarterfinal action Seawolves' forward Steve Rwendeye (Kigali, Rawanda) netted two goals for SMCC to propel his team to a 2-1 victory over the Rams of Unity College.

Unity's Jacob Scoville put the Rams in the books after only seven minutes of play when he capitalized on pass from teammate William Desmarais. The Seawolves answered just four minutes later when Rwendeye received a pass over the top of the defense from midfielder Sean Jackson (Berwick, ME) and shot it past a sliding Unity defender and the goalkeeper, tying the game at one goal apiece. The next 73 minutes of play was all about defense as Seawolves' goalkeeper Spencer Hoyt (Rochester, NH) racked up ten saves on 16 Unity shots and Rams' keeper Brendan Wallace chalked up seven saves on 23 SMCC shot attempts. With just over five minutes remaining in regulation Rwendeye found himself on a breakaway down the right side of the field. With some impressive dribbling he shook his defender and found himself one on one against the Unity goalie, he faked a shot toward the left and then flicked the ball into the right corner of the net to give the Seawolves' the 2-1 win.

This win advances the Seawolves' to the semifinal round of the YSCC playoffs where they will face NHTI, the host of the YSCC tournament. The time of the contest is TBA and will be posted at a later time.
