MACHIAS, Maine— The Southern Maine Community College men's soccer team suffered its first Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) loss at the University of Maine- Machias on Saturday, Sept. 17 by a score of 2-0.
The Clippers jumped on the score board in the 27th minute compliments of a goal by Ahmed Suja. Machias doubled its lead in the second half with a score from Haidar Al-Freihy at the 69-minute mark. The SeaWolves recorded 10 corner kick set pieces and 12 shots-on-goal but were unable to convert any against a resilient Clipper defense.
Sophomore Patrick Duddy (Sedgwick, Maine) was tested with 15 shots-on-goal in the 90 minutes he played inside the goal mouth. Duddy recorded another 13 saves.
SMCC now stands 0-1 in conference play and 2-2-1 overall.
The SeaWolves look to snap a two game skid when they play host to YSCC divisional opponent Central Maine Community College on Wednesday, Sept. 21 at Wainwright Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
