Seawolves Finish As Second Seed in YSCC

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine— The Southern Maine Community College men's soccer team earned its fourth Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) victory on Saturday, Oct. 8 defeating Unity College 1-0 at Wainwright Field on Saturday, Oct. 8.

Prior to the match, SMCC celebrated nine members of the team in their last regular season conference game who plan to graduate from their academic program or transfer to another institution following the season. There were sophomores Douglas Cloutier (Berwick, Maine), Zachary Pitts (Waterboro, Maine), Bronson Kieltyka(Monmouth, Maine), Harrison Charwat (McLean, Va.), Jamal Durrani (Lebanon, Maine), juniors Jacob Coffey(Lebanon, Maine), Jacob Cavacas (Cavendish, Vt.), Abdirahman Mohamed (Portland, Maine) and senior Denver Grant (Lucea, Maine).

Co-captain Cloutier found the back of the net for his first cap of the season on a volley from the long throw of first-year Jeremy Miller (Bangor, Maine). This goal in the eighth minute proved to be the game winner as the SeaWolves defense held steady for the full 90 minutes.

Sophomore goal keeper Patrick Duddy (Sedgwick, Maine) notched his third clean sheet of the season saving both shots that came his way.

SMCC has played to 4-2 conference record, and 6-3-1 overall. As the second seed in the YSCC standings, the SeaWolves will host Unity College again next weekend in its conference post-season play-in game.

The SeaWolves will round out their regular season on Monday, Oct. 10 when they play host to the Bulldogs of Dean College in a non-conference match. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
