CONCORD, N.H.— The Southern Maine Community College men's soccer team was defeated 3-0 by the top-seeded Clippers from the University of Maine- Machias in the Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) championship game on Sunday, Oct. 23.
The Clippers struck first in the 20th minute and again in the 28th on a free kick to take a 2-0 lead into halftime. Machias' Haidar Al-Freihy netted the third goal of the game when he converted a penalty kick at the 86-minute mark to give his team a commanding lead as time expired.
SMCC's goal keeper Patrick Duddy (Sedgwick, Maine) notched 14 saves on 17 shot-attempts.
The win for Machias sends the Clippers to the United States Collegiate Athletic Assocation's (USCAA) National Tournament Nov. 10-14 in Virginia Beach, Va.
Co-captain Douglas Cloutier (Berwick, Maine) was named most Outstanding Offensive Player in the Final Four tournament.
The SeaWolves finished their 2016 season at 8-4-1 overall.
