SMCC Soccer Teams Up With Youth Strikers

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine— Southern Maine Community College Athletics and the South Portland Strikers Soccer club will be teaming up to offer a "City of South Portland Soccer Day" on Sunday, Sept. 11 at the Wainwright Sports Complex. The day is to promote soccer within South Portland; to highlight the youth teams of the community as well as the collegiate soccer program offered at SMCC.

The day will begin at 10 a.m. with a Strikers U-14 Boys game against Gorham. Following that will be a slate of three games starting at 12 p.m. The Strikers U-11 Girls will take on Cape Elizabeth, and the Strikers U-12 Boys will host Gorham. The final 12 p.m. game will have the SMCC SeaWolves men's soccer team taking on the visiting Knights of Rhode Island C.C. for a non-conference match up. A special 9/11 remembrance will take place during this game.

The Strikers U-11 Boys will host at 1:15 p.m. against Portland, and the Strikers U-12 Girls will face Noble at 2:30 p.m. The SMCC SeaWolves women's soccer team will kick off the second college game of the day at 2 p.m. against Central Maine C.C. To conclude the day the Strikers U-13 girls will host Windham following the SeaWolves Men's Soccer game with a game time slated for 4 p.m.

The day is free to all spectators and concessions will be available. Come out and support soccer in the local community!
