SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's soccer team was edged 2-1 by the Panthers from Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (ACPHS) in a non-conference match at Wainwright Recreational Complex on Saturday, Sept. 1.
Albany did all of its damage in the first half—Alex Bleau made the home team pay in the 19th minute and Anes Bostandzic followed suit on a ball from Noah Keith minutes before the break.
Senior Jamal Durrani (Lebanon, Maine) scored his third career goal as a defender to make things interesting with plenty of time remaining at the 54:07 mark. However, SMCC squandered a penalty kick opportunity in the 81st minute before landing only one more shot on goal before full time expired.
First-year goalkeeper Camden Labrecque (Saco, Maine) made eight saves in 10 attempts in his collegiate debut. The SeaWolves fired 17 shots, seven on goal.
In a post-game interview, Head Coach Brian Dougher stated, "Although it wasn't the result we were hoping for, there are successes to take away. We were able to create plenty of goal-scoring opportunities and absorb a relentless attack by a talented Albany squad. Looking forward to building on this performance."

The result lands Albany 1-0-0 and SMCC 0-1-0 to begin their seasons.
The SeaWolves will take on the Bowdoin College Junior Varsity squad in an exhibition on Wednesday, Sept. 5. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. in Brunswick, Maine.
