Men’s Soccer Celebrates 50th Season With 15-Game Slate

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine— Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) Head Men’s Soccer Coach Brian Dougher will return to the sidelines for his 14th year at the helm of a program that will enter its historic 50th season.

The SeaWolves dawn the 2018 season with Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, an affiliate of the Hudson Valley Conference, at home on Sept. 1. SMCC will move on to play an exhibition game against the Bowdoin College Junior Varsity squad in Brunswick before traveling to first-time opponent Green Mountain College on Sept. 8. Narrowly missing the Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) postseason a season ago, the men’s soccer team will open its seven-game conference schedule away at Vermont Technical College on Sept. 9th with hopes to avenge a most recent 2-1 loss.

The SeaWolves will welcome Central Maine Community College (CMCC) midweek on Sept. 12 to begin a three-game YSCC home stand. Then follows Paul Smith’s College and the defending conference champion Lynx from NHTI on Sept. 20—two teams that gave SMCC trouble in 2017.

The men will journey to Amherst, Mass. to take on Hampshire College with aspirations to improve on a 2-1-0 record all-time before finishing September at Bridgton Academy on the 26th and at home versus the always talented Community College of Rhode Island on the 29th.

The SeaWolves propel into October when they match up with Unity College on the 3rd. Although SMCC is unbeaten in its previous nine meetings against the Rams, the previous four were decided by just one goal. The SeaWolves will meet the Warriors from Massasoit Community College for the first time at a matinee kickoff on the 6th before filling out their YSCC slate at the University of Maine at Machias a week later. SMCC will look to extend its unbeaten streak of 16 games against rival CMCC in Auburn as part of the annual two-game series on Oct. 18.

The YSCC Championship Tournament will be held at NHTI in Concord, N.H. October 27th-28th. The USCAA National Tournament is set for November 8th-12th in Virginia Beach, Va.

All soccer home games are played at Wainwright Recreation Complex at 125 Gary L. Maietta Way in South Portland.
