SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) Athletic Department has announced the resignation of former Head Men’s Soccer Coach Brian Dougher effective immediately.

Spanning a tenure of 18 seasons, Dougher owns the most wins in program history coaching to an impressive 133-104-21 overall mark. He had led the Seawolves to 11 winning seasons since his debut in 2005, captured three Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) titles (2007, 2011, 2019) and qualified for three United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) National Tournament appearances.

Dougher’s coaching success also produced 16 USCAA All-American selections, and has landed three former players into the illustrious SMCC Athletics Hall of Fame.

Coach Dougher commented, “I would like to thank Southern Maine Community College and the Athletic Department for entrusting me with the men’s soccer program these past 18 seasons. It has been an honor to lead the young men that have come to SMCC to enrich their academics and to continue their soccer passion. I hope I have left the program in place for the next leadership team to take it further. Once again, best of luck to the future of men’s soccer and to those that have put on the Seawolves’ uniform.”

Associate Dean of Athletics and Alumni Affairs Matt Richards expressed, “The SMCC community is indebted to Brian Dougher for his 18 years of service. Brian’s efforts built a foundation for men’s soccer at the College and within the Yankee Small College Conference; and we will look to continue that tradition moving forward.”

An immediate search will be conducted by the department to fill the position.
