Softball Topped By Northeastern Club In Road Matinee

BOSTON, Mass.—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) softball team was defeated in both games of a double header matinee against the Northeastern University club team on Saturday, Mar. 16.

Game 1: L, 8-2 | BOX

SMCC collected eight hits powered by first-year Wylie Bedard (Skowhegan, Maine) and sophomore captain Sara Ring (Wells, Maine) each with two. Sophomore Cassidy Harriman (Richmond, Maine) and first-year Jordan Boucher (Berwick, Maine) accounted for both of SMCC's RBIs—Boucher a triple to knock in hers.

Northeastern's Hopkinson contributed two hits in three trips to the plate, adding two runs and four RBIs.

Sophomore Meranda Martin (Richmond, Maine) made the start in the circle and allowed eight runs, four earned, over nine hits. Martin struck out six and walked four in a complete game effort. Northeastern's Neudarf earned the victory.

Game 2: L, 7-2 | BOX

Ring picked up another two hits in three at-bats to bring her season average to .538. This time it was sophomore Morgan Boyle (Portland, Maine) and junior Kahli Philibotte (Hooksett, N.H.) who came through with RBIs for the SeaWolves. Northeastern's Braley and Shirkumar combined for four of the Huskies' 10 total hits.

First-year Emily Chasse (Monmouth, Maine) made her first start of the season going 5.0 innings before first-year Emily Long (Rockport, Maine) came in for an inning of relief. Northeastern's Bootness recorded the win in a complete game showing.

SMCC drops its first two of the spring to stand 3-5 overall combining with the fall season.

The Lady SeaWolves continue with an exhibition double header Tuesday, Mar. 19 against NCAA Div. III Colby College at 4/6 p.m.
