FARMINGTON, N.H.—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) softball team dropped both games at the University of Maine at Farmington on Sunday, Apr. 21.

Game 1: L, 6-4

The game started off with a scoreless first two innings, but in the bottom of the third, Farmington was able to get on the board scoring Abby Wrinn. The Seawolves responded in the top of the fourth with a run of their own by way of a RBI triple from Emily Hutchins (Kennebunk, Maine).

The Beavers put up a big fourth inning, pushing four across with RBI hits from Maddie Pike, Olivia Paradis, and Jojo Daigneaul. The Seawolves looked to have the makings of a comeback in the sixth inning, with first-year co-captain Sarah Wilkins (Alberta, Canada) and Hutchins both driving in runs, but it wasn't enough to overtake the Farmington lead.

Farmington's Mack Bergen earned the win, allowing four runs on six hits in 5.1 innings of work. Wilkins took the loss for SMCC, giving up six runs on eight hits in six innings pitched.

Game 2: L, 4-0

The home team's starter Melissa Mayo delivered an impressive outing, allowing only three hits and striking out nine batters over seven innings.

The scoring started in the second inning when Farmington's Emily Collins reached first base on an error, allowing Isabella LaFrance to score. The game remained close until the sixth when Collins doubled to left center, bringing in two runs. Wrinn then singled to bring in another run, securing the victory for the Beavers.

SMCC starter Jaida Case (Machias, Maine) put up a valiant effort, allowing four runs (three earned) on eight hits and striking out two batters over six innings.

The results move SMCC to 13-7 overall.

The Seawolves return to action on Tuesday, Apr. 23 when they travel to the Community College of Rhode Island for a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 3:30 p.m.
