SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) softball team was defeated in both games of a non-conference doubleheader by the Knights from the Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI) on Friday, Apr. 26.

Game 1: L, 11-3 (5 innings)

The Knights started quick scoring three runs in the first inning but the Seawolves answered the bell with three of their own in the bottom of the inning—highlighted by a homerun from Emily Hutchins (Kennebunk, Maine) and a double by Morgan Duhaime (Ellsworth, Maine).

The scoring stopped there for the home team, while CCRI piled on runs in the second, third, fourth, and fifth innings.

First-years Olivia Hill (Dover-Foxcroft, Maine), Shylah Woodford (Readfield, Maine), and Duhaime all recorded multi-hit games. SMCC starter Sarah Wilkins (Alberta, Canada) took the loss surrendering 10 hits in 4.1 innings of work.

Game 2: L, 15-2 (5 innings)

The second game looked much like the first as the Knights pushed three across in the first inning and continued to add throughout.

SMCC pitching struggled to contain the CCRI offense; the Seawolves spread eight hits over five innings with much of the production happening at the top of the order. Hutchins and Hill both totaled 3-3 games.

First-year Jaida Case (Machias, Maine) suffered the loss for SMCC, tossing four innings.

The Seawolves slip to 15-11 overall.

SMCC turns around to host the Wildcats from Bay Path University to work on a split earlier this season. First pitch of the non-conference doubleheader is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
