Seawolves Drop Close Game to UMaine-Augusta

The SMCC women's basketball team lost a close game this evening 59-56 to the visiting Moose of UMaine-Augusta (UMA).  Freshman forward Katelyn Benson (Westbrook, ME) scored 11 points in the first half igniting a strong start for the Seawolves that found them up nine points at halftime. UMA clawed their way back in the game by hitting their shots at the free throw line. The Moose were 23-32 from the line.

Benson was the leading scorer for SMCC with 18 points.  Sophomore guard Esther Palmieri (South Portland, ME) played well on both ends of the floor contributing 12 points on 4 of 6 shooting behind the arc, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals. 

The Seawolves fall to 12-7 overall and 8-3 in conference play.  The women travel to Dean College this Saturday, January 28th for a 1:00 PM game.
