Lady Seawolves Overcome Early Foul Trouble to Win Regular Season Finale

Randolph Center, VT - This afternoon the Lady Seawolves wrapped up their regular season with a game at Vermont Technical College. A tightly called game resulted in three of the four SMCC post players entering halftime sporting three fouls. Despite the early foul trouble the Seawolves were able to hold and pick up 71-49 victory.

After two minutes of play the Lady Knights held a 1-0 lead before Alicia Hoyt (Steep Falls, ME) knocked down two shots from the charity stripe to put the Seawolves on the board. SMCC proceeded to go on a 21-5 run to pad the lead, but their early foul trouble caught up with them. The Seawolves sent the Knights to the free throw line ten times in final six minutes of the first half and VTC connected on nine of those ten attempts. The Seawolves were able to hold onto a 38-19 after one half of play due to outrebounding the Knights by 13 and shooting 32.5% from the field, compared to VTC's 11% from the field.

The Knights opened the second half with a 10-2 run to cut the Seawolves lead to just eleven. A much needed SM timeout halted the VTC momentum and resulted in a 17-5 run in the Seawolves favor, sparked by a steal and layup by point guard Jordan Turner (Casco, ME). Shooting guard Katherine Cyr (Springfield, MA) helped keep the Seawolves on track scoring 10 of her 12 points in the second half and giving the Seawolves their eighteenth win of the season.

Post player Amira Jones (Chicopee, MA) played through foul trouble to lead the team with 13 points and eight rebounds. Turner had 11 points, seven rebounds, five assists and five steals and Hoyt led the team in rebounds with 11 to along with seven points and two blocks.

The Knights' center Paige Wells played through a knee injury to lead the team with a double-double, scoring 21 points and grabbing 16 rebounds.

These two teams will meet again in the YSCC conference tournament quarterfinals on Thursday at a time to be determined.
