Ruth Shoots Lady Wolves To First Win Of Season

AUBURN, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's basketball team defeated Cegep Champlain- St. Lawrence (Canada) 62-54 in part one of the Can Am Tournament hosted by Central Maine Community College on Saturday, Oct. 28.

Sophomore and co-captain Alicia Ruth (Plaistow, N.H.) picked up where she left off as a Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) All-Conference selection a season ago, leading the SeaWolves with 15 points, getting all of her buckets from downtown. First-year Emily Emerson (Topsham, Vt.) finished with 13 rebounds, eight points, and six steals. Co-captains Emily Hogan (Jay, Maine) and Jordan Farquharson (Ryegate, Vt.) both contributed with 10 points.

St. Lawrence's Jeanne Bellarouse was the leading scorer on the afternoon with 19 in 35 minutes of work.

The SeaWolves posted double digit totals in all four quarters, claiming a 41-39 lead on a jumper by Emerson with 6:27 left in the third. The SeaWolves were outscored 13-12 in the fourth quarter but held on to capture their first victory of the season.
