SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine— The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's basketball team picked up its fourth Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) victory in dramatic fashion on Thursday, Nov. 30.

The SeaWolves welcomed the Lynx from NHTI with a 22-point first quarter, six from first-year Amanda Brett (Portland, Maine)— the new addition to SMCC's starting five. The Lynx would get even 36-36 near the close of the second quarter on a made bucket by junior Riselly Deoleo (Manchester, N.H.), but the home team would cling to a one-point advantage as the half time buzzer sounded.

The SeaWolves came out firing an 11-0 run, making three pointers in three consecutive trips down the floor. The Lynx answered with a 7-0 run of their own and with four minutes left in the fourth would take a 67-66 lead on another made Deoleo jumper. Both teams traded baskets until junior co-captain Jordan Farquharson (Ryegate, Vt.) collected an offensive rebound and scored the go-ahead two-pointer with 14 seconds remaining.

The SeaWolves made the stop on the other end before the Lynx sent sophomore co-captain Emily Hogan (Jay, Maine) to the line where she secured the SMCC win by making both.

In this seesaw battle, there were nine ties and 11 lead changes. The SeaWolves made 26 of 64 field goal attempts in their best shooting performance yet this season. Hogan and first-year Abigail Ramirez (Methuen, Mass.) combined for 28 on 10-17 from the floor. NHTI's Deoleo scored a game high 24 points and added 12 rebounds.

SMCC improves to 4-1 in YSCC play, 6-3 overall. NHTI stands .500 in conference action (3-3), 4-3 on the season.

The Lady Seawolves get back to action on Saturday, Dec. 2 in another conference showdown, this time at the University of Maine at Machias. SMCC are winners of four straight against the Clippers and 4-1 in the previous five meetings on the road. Tip off from Machias is scheduled for 1 p.m.
