Women Advance To Saturday, Play #2 UMA In YSCC Semis

CONCORD, N.H.—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's basketball team defeated the Knights from Vermont Technical College (VTC) for the third time this season 53-34 in the Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) quarter-final round at NHTI on Thursday, Feb. 15.

SMCC outscored the opponent in all four quarters, but gained its separation in the second quarter by limiting the Knights to a mere four points and posting 19 on the offensive end—five from both Jordan Farquharson (Ryegate, Vt.) and Emily Emerson (Topsham, Vt.)

First-year Amanda Brett (Portland, Maine) finished as the game's high scorer with 12 points on 5-8 shooting. Farquharson and first-year Grace Kariotis (New Gloucester, Maine) combined for 20 points, Kariotis contributing two three-pointers.

The Knights conclude their season at 8-22 overall.

The Lady SeaWolves will match up with the #2 Moose from the University of Maine at Augusta in seek of their 20th win of the season in the semi-final slate on Saturday, Feb. 17 at 2 p.m. WATCH: https://www.nsnsports.net

SMCC split with UMA in two regular season meetings, both games determined by a six-point spread or less. A win over the Moose in the rubber match will push the SeaWolves to the championship game on Sunday, Feb. 18 to take on the winner of #1 Central Maine Community College vs. #4 NHTI.
