Women’s Basketball Earns 36-Point Win On Emily Hogan Day

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women’s basketball team defeated the Rams from Springfield Technical Community College 91-55 in a non-conference contest on Sunday, Feb. 10.

SMCC outscored the opponent in all four quarters, gaining big separation in the third finishing the quarter on a 13-0 run. The SeaWolves improved on their 46.7 points-against-average—ranking second among all United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Division 2 programs.

Three finished with double-doubles in support of the home squad. Sophomore captain Amanda Brett (Portland, Maine) recorded her fifth game with 30 or more points, dropping 36 with 10 rebounds. Sophomore Lauryn Fagan (Standish, Maine) went for 12 points and 11 boards and sophomore captain Abigail Ramirez (Portland, Maine) moved into sole possession of #2 in the all-time assists category, dishing a career high 15 in the game.

Springfield’s Kaitlyn Paulk led her team with 17 points and 10 rebounds.

SMCC wins its second in-a-row and improves to 20-4 overall, remaining 14-2 in conference action. Springfield dips to 14-13 overall.

The Lady Wolves will enter the Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) playoff tournament as the #2-seed and will host #7 Unity College in the quarter final round on Sunday, Feb. 17. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. Should SMCC advance, the final four will be played out at Central Maine Community College on Feb. 23-24.
