CONCORD, N.H.—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women’s basketball program cruised to a 30-point victory over the Lynx of NHTI in a Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) tilt on Thursday, Jan. 30.

First-year Grace Fontaine (Auburn, Maine) netted double figures for the eighth time this season going for 13 points on 5-11 shooting. Rookie forward Tara Flanders (Windham, Maine) tallied a double-double to include 12 points and 10 rebounds—knocking down 6-8 from the free throw line. Junior captain Amanda Brett (Portland, Maine) and first-year center Aija Andrews (Norwalk, Conn.) combined for 20 points and eight rebounds in limited action.

The SeaWolves won every quarter and dominated the paint, scoring 64 percent of the total mark inside the key. SMCC out-rebounded the opposition by 25 and connected for 43.4 percent from the field.

In a post-game interview, Head Coach Katie Stannard said, “Road games at this point in the season are always challenging, this a great team win. We were led by a freshman trio of Ashleigh, Grace, and Tara and saw great things off the bench from Lily and Bailey! Everyone earned playing time and offered significant contributions. We hope to build off this momentum going into another huge road game on Sunday!”

SMCC renews a win streak getting to 18-3 overall, 10-2 in league action. NHTI drops its third straight and stands 7-10 on the year, 5-8 YSCC.

Conference action continues when the Lady SeaWolves travel to Vermont Technical College on Sunday, Feb. 2 as part of a matinee doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
