RANDOLPH, Vt.—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women’s basketball team suffered a 14-point loss to the Knights of Vermont Technical College (VTC) in a Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) road contest Sunday, Feb. 2.

After one quarter, the SeaWolves trailed 15-12 and then by a six-point margin at the break. SMCC played even in the third quarter but it broke down in the fourth, scoring just 12 points on 5-15 shooting. There featured five lead changes in the game, but it was VTC capitalizing on points off turnovers coupled with an inefficient shot selection by SMCC that proved to be the difference maker down the stretch.

Junior captain Amanda Brett (Portland, Maine) recorded her eighth double-double of the season going for 22 points on 22 shot attempts. She added 11 rebounds and two steals in 39 minutes of play. First-year Grace Fontaine (Auburn, Maine) scored nine and added four assists.

Three combined for 62 of the Knights’ 72 points led by Farah Mesidor’s 23—Kimah Stribling tallied a double-double posting 21 points and 12 rebounds.

SMCC dropped its third conference game to stand 10-3 in league action and 18-4 overall; Vermont Tech made it three-in-a-row to climb to 8-5 in the Yankee standings, 11-9 overall.

The SeaWolves return home to host the Herons from Great Bay Community College in another conference showdown Wednesday, Feb. 5. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. WATCH live or follow the GAME CAST.
