Lady SeaWolves Erase Great Bay At The HUB

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women’s basketball team rolled to a 112-21 Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) victory and a season sweep of the Herons from Great Bay Community College (GBCC) on Wednesday, Feb. 5.

The SeaWolves posted healthy totals in each quarter—to feature a 38-point third—while holding the opposition to single digits. Transfer first-year Marley Groat (Durham, Maine) led all scorers in the game and reached a season-high 25 points on five made three-pointers. Five others signed off on double-digits to include 14 from first-year Hope Adkins (Guilford, Maine) and 13 from first-year Ainsley Bryant (Topsham, Maine).

As a team, SMCC connected for 41.7 percent from the field and ripped down 30 on the offensive glass. The home team assisted on 27 of 45 made baskets and benefited from 63 bench points.

GBCC was led by Madison Lovely’s 11 points and nine rebounds.

SMCC continues to climb the Yankee standings at 11-3, 19-4 overall. GBCC suffers its second consecutive loss sporting a 2-12 record in league action, 5-12 overall.

The SeaWolves finish up a two-game home stand on Saturday, Feb. 8 when they welcome the Panthers from Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences on Timothy D. Hagerman Alumni Game. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m. following the men’s and women’s alumni games.
