Lady Seawolves Drop Season Opener in Double OT

Franklin, Massachusetts SMCC started the 2013 season battling Dean College for 101 scoreless minutes until Dean sophomore Morgan Mencio (Avon, CT) scored in the second overtime leading the Lady Bulldogs to a 1-0 non-conference victory.

The two teams fought through an evenly played first half, with Dean having a one shot advantage going into halftime. SMCC goalie Sydney Proctor (Saco, ME) had several key saves in the first half to keep the score knotted at 0-0.

Lady Seawolves, Michela Desjardins (Fort Kent, ME) and Zyrah Giustra (Bath, ME) both had shots on goal in the second half but were unable to convert. Dean goalkeeper Katelyn Kelsea (Pittsburg, NH) chalks up her first shutout of the season and helps the Lady Bulldogs improve to 1-0-0, while the Lady Seawolves drop to 0-1-0 overall and 0-0-0 in conference play.

SMCC will return to action Saturday, September 7th at Hampshire College.
