Seawolves Drop Mustangs in Double OT

Auburn - In this afternoon's YSCC soccer action Lady Seawolf forward Brittany Carver (Gardiner, ME) chipped in the game winning goal eight minutes into the second overtime off a pass from teammate Zyrah Giustra (New Sharon, ME) to lead SMCC to the a 2-1 victory over conference rival CMCC.

With ten minutes left to play in the first half Brittany Carver slotted a ball to Michela Desjardins (Fort Kent, ME) who put the ball in the back of the net to give the Lady Seawolves a 1-0 lead.  The Lady Mustangs answered when forward Hannah Champagne (Lisbon, NH) chipped in a shot after receiving the ball from Gabrielle Ouellette (Lisbon, ME) to tie the game at 1-1. The score would remain deadlocked throughout regulation. In overtime number one both teams came up empty handed, sending the game into double overtime where the Lady Seawolves were able to overcome the Lady Mustangs and pull away with the 2-1 triumph.

CMCC goalkeeper Maggie McConkey (Fryeburg, ME) came up big with 18 saves but the Lady Seawolves dominated the offensive side of the ball getting 20 shot opportunities for the game, while holding the Lady Mustangs to only one shot. 

With this win the Lady Seawolves improve to 4-4-3 overall and 3-2-1 in conference play while the Lady Mustangs drop to 1-3-2 overall and 1-3-2 in conference. The Lady Seawolves will return to action on Saturday October 12th at home against Unity College at 12pm.
