Hendrix Scores Game Winner in OT

Unity - For the past two years the Lady Rams of Unity College have eliminated the Lady Seawolves from postseason play but this afternoon the Seawolves were finally able to get redemption, beating the Rams 2-1 in overtime.

With time winding down in the first half Seawolves' defender Marina West (Farmington, ME) won a ball in the backfield that she was able to carry upfield and pass off to midfielder Tori Cormier (Lebanon, ME). Cormier turned her defender and played a diagonal ball down the right side to teammate Zyrah Giustra (New Sharon, ME) who took a few touches, blew past her defender and slid the ball far post past the goalie.

The halftime break proved beneficial for the Rams as they came out firing and scored within the first minute of the second half to tie the game at 1-1. The remainder of the game was back and forth with action on both ends but overall the Seawolves were able to muster more offense, getting 19 shots on goal for the game in comparison to just four for the Rams. However, Rams' keeper Ashia Pryor was able to come up with 15 saves on the many attempts from the Seawolves' forcing the game into overtime.

In the overtime period forward Kym Hendrix (Waterboro, ME) collected a pass from Cormier and made her way to the goal where a scrum ensued in the front of the net. Hendrix emerged from the crowd with the ball and poked it home for the thrilling overtime win.

The Seawolves, who are ranked fifth in the USCAA in the first coaches' poll that was released this week, are now sporting an overall record of 5-1 (2-1 YSCC). They will look to grab win number six on Wednesday when they host Bunker Hill CC at 4pm.
