Seawolves Defeat UMM, Win YSCC Championship

Concord, NH - This afternoon the Seawolves captured their first ever YSCC title and national tournament bid when they defeated the Clippers of UMaine-Machias in penalty kicks. This victory improves the Seawolves' record to 10-1-2, making the 2015 squad the most successful in program history.

In first half action SMCC took the early lead when midfielder Hannah Fields (Shapleigh, ME) buried one in the back of the net from 25 yards out. Fields struck again in the 55th minute with a solo goal that gave the Seawolves a 2-0 lead. However, the Clippers came fighting back when Brooklynne Lewis, the number two goal scorer in the YSCC, landed one in the far corner. The Clippers continued to attack and tied the game with 12 minutes remaining when Nicole Zufelt scored off a pass from teammate Emma Parker.

After two overtime periods the score was still knotted at 2-2 sending the game into penalty kicks. The Clippers connected on one of their attempts but the Seawolves hit three, one each by Marina West (Farmington, ME), Katy Owen (Gardiner, ME) and Fields to take the game.

For her efforts, Hannah Fields, was named tournament MVP while Marina West received Defensive Player honors.
