Lynx Outplay SeaWolves in YSCC Semis

CONCORD, N.H.—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's soccer team was defeated 4-0 to NHTI, Concord's Community College in a Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) semi-final game on Saturday, Oct. 28.

NHTI's Maura Hart showed why she's the Player of the Year giving her team a 2-0 advantage with her 20th and 21st goal of the fall under 12 minutes into the first half. The Lynx scored again in the first minute of the second and then punched their ticket to the championship game with their fourth goal of the afternoon at the 77:08 mark.

SMCC goalkeeper Shae Couture (Rochester, N.H.) registered six saves in 90 minutes as the SeaWolves' offense managed four shots on goal against a steady Lynx defense that had allowed only eight goals-against all season.

Before the game, first-years Callie O'Brien (South Portland, Maine) and Jessica Haskell (Saco, Maine) received YSCC All-Conference recognition. O'Brien with 10 goals and 21 points; Haskell six goals and 13 points spanning 12 games.

The SeaWolves finish 2017 at a 6-5-1 overall mark, 4-2-1 in conference action.

NHTI went on to defeat Unity College in the championship game on Sunday, Oct. 29 to capture the YSCC title and earn a bid to the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) national tournament in Virginia Beach, Va. beginning Nov. 10.
