O’Brien Reaches Milestone, SeaWolves Suffer First Loss

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's soccer team suffered its first blemish of the season in a 2-1 loss to the Lynx from NHTI in a Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) match on Tuesday, Oct. 2.

Entering the game, SMCC ranked #2 and NHTI #3 in the most recent United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Coaches Poll. In a heavy rainfall, the contest was held scoreless through the first 45 minutes of play—both teams combining for nine shots.

The Lynx where first to find the back of the net when Madison Parrott finished a loose ball in the box at the 73:59 minute-mark. SMCC would get even when YSCC-goal leader Callie O'Brien (South Portland, Maine) netted a cross from first-year Katelin Bennett (Freedom, Maine) five minutes later.

With less than two minutes remaining in regulation, NHTI's Maura Hart placed a free kick by SMCC keeper Dana Sirois (Saco, Maine) to deliver the road team a 2-1 victory.

O'Brien's goal was her 25th of her SeaWolf career which set a new program record, previously held by Hannah Fields. O'Brien is only three points shy of the matching the all-time point total, also held by Hannah Fields (57).

The result leaves SMCC 7-1-0 overall, 4-1-0 in league play. NHTI improves to 5-1-1 overall, 4-0 YSCC.

The Lady Wolves get back to action on Saturday, Oct. 6 when they host Massasoit Community College in a non-conference tilt beginning at 1 p.m. LIVE STATS.
