SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's soccer team earned its first win of the 2021 season in a shutout over Central Maine Community College (CMCC) on Wednesday, Sept. 15 at Wainwright Recreation Complex.

First-year Ammelia Lunt (West Gardiner, Maine) got things going for the SeaWolves when she beat the keeper near post for her first career goal in the fourth minute of action. Sophomore captain Desiree Veilleux (Winslow, Maine) scored on corner kick that doubled the SMCC lead before the break.

First-year Brittany Verrill (Bowdoin, Maine) lofted a ball over the CMCC keeper for her first career cap minutes into the second half before junior captain Paige Lord (Pittsfield, Maine) tucked two away to put the game out of reach.

The SeaWolves improve to 1-1-0 on the season; CMCC stands 2-3 overall.

Head Coach Ethan Wells commented, "After a long layoff with game postponements, I was extremely pleased with the energy and excitement the ladies brought on game day. Everyone contributed with effective and versatile minutes. I look forward to getting right back to it on Saturday against Vermont Tech in a game we welcome the South Portland Strikers youth girls teams!"

The SeaWolves open their Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) schedule on Saturday, Sept. 18 when they host the Lady Knights from Vermont Technical College. Kickoff at Wainwright Recreation Complex is set for 1 p.m.
