Lady Wolves Split In Weekend Road Trip

ALBANY, N.Y./SCHENECTADY, N.Y.—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's soccer team split in its weekend trip to New York, suffering a 1-0 loss to Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (ACPHS) before completing a 4-0 shutout of Bryant and Stratton College- Albany.

The injury-depleted SeaWolves took on the undefeated Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) Panthers of ACPHS on Saturday, Sept. 25. SMCC held the home team scoreless through 49 minutes, until Emily D'Abrosca found the back of the net on a ball from Shannon Donnelly that broke the stalemate. D'Abrosca leads the conference in goals with 12 on the season.

The SeaWolves transitioned to attack mode but ran out of firepower as time expired in regulation. The result leaves SMCC 1-2 in league play.

The SeaWolves returned to the win column in a 4-0 beating of USCAA Div. 1-opponent Bryant and Stratton College- Albany on neutral ground at Union College on Sunday, Sept. 26.

First-year Brittany Verrill (Bowdoin, Maine) recorded her third and fourth goals of the year and an assist to first-year Riley Blatchford (Old Orchard Beach, Maine— who netted the first of her career. First-year Ammelia Lunt (West Gardiner, Maine) added to the scoring frenzy with her second cap.

SMCC stands 3-3 on the season.

Next, the Lady SeaWolves host USCAA-opponent Word of Life Bible Institute on Friday, Oct. 1 in a non-conference match. Kickoff from Wainwright Recreation Complex is scheduled for 3 p.m.
