PAUL SMITH'S, N.Y.—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's soccer team fell 2-1 to the top-ranked Bobcats of Paul Smith's College in Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) play on Saturday, Oct. 1.

The Bobcats opened scoring in the second half, when Ruth Marscham redirected a corner kick by first-year goalkeeper Grayson Soldati (Portland, Maine) in the 49th minute. Sophomore Mackenzie Farnham (South Portland, Maine) knotted the score with a header goal inside the six-yard box, her second cap of the season, at the 60:53 mark.

Paul Smith's claimed the lead for the final time on a free kick opportunity that found the foot of Hayleigh Gates with 20 minutes remaining. The Seawolves made a last push to respond but fell shy to own their first loss of the season.

Soldati recorded 13 saves.

The result moves SMCC to 2-1-4 overall, and third place in the YSCC standings at 2-1-1. Paul Smith's sits atop of the league table at 2-0-1.

The Seawolves finish the weekend with a meeting against non-conference Bunker Hill Community College on Sunday, Oct. 2. Kickoff at Wainwright Recreation Complex is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
