CASTINE, Maine-- The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's soccer team opened it's season on the road against NCAA Div. 3 Maine Maritime Academy (MMA) on Friday, Sept. 1; MMA emerged victorious with a final score of 2-1.

The first half ended with a 0-0 scoreline, as both teams struggled to find the back of the net. However, in the second half, MMA took the lead in the 59th minute when Kirra Magana scored an unassisted goal, putting her team up 1-0.

The Seawolves responded in the 70th minute when captain Mia Pasciuto (Littleton, Mass.) netted her first career goal off of a deep cross delivered by first-year Leah Hill (Dover-Foxcroft, Maine), setting the stage for an exciting finish.

In the 84th minute, the home team regained the lead when Lillyanna Ash put a ball on frame out of a corner kick opportunity. The Seawolves were unable to find another goal before the final whistle to begin their season 0-1.

Maine Maritime's ability to convert its chances into goals proved to be the difference.

The Seawolves return to action in Longmeadow, Mass. on Saturday, Sept. 9 in a non-conference bout with Bay Path University (USCAA Div. 1). Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
