SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine-- The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's soccer team put together a 5-1 win over the Moose from the University of Maine at Augusta (UMA) in its Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) opener on Thursday, Sept. 14.

The first half ended in a stalemate, until SMCC quickly took control of the game in the opening minutes of the second half. Sophomore Chanelle McDonough (Gorham, Maine) opened the scoring for the home team on a slotted ball by sophomore Emilienne Biddings-Augustine (New Gloucester, Maine) at the 45:45 mark. Junior Ammelia Lunt (West Gardiner, Maine) followed suit with another goal at 54:35 on a back-post run.

Sophomore captain Mia Pasciuto (Littleton, Mass.) added her fifth of the year at 67:45 and then first-year Samantha Duffy (South Portland, Maine) netted her first career goal off a corner kick delivery from Lunt. UMA managed to get on the scoreboard with a goal from Lexi Furrow at 77:16, but it was too little too late, as first-year Annabelle Fournier (Saco, Maine) put a bow on it with a stunner from 30 yards away to make it 5-1.

SMCC starter Grayson Soldati (Portland, Maine) collected two saves in 63 minutes inside the goalmouth; rookie goalkeeper Caitlin Burke (New Sharon, Maine), made two saves, to include a penalty kick, in near 27 minutes of action.

SMCC moves to 3-1 on the season.

The Seawolves continue conference scheduling when they travel to Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences on Sunday, Sept. 17. Kickoff in New York is set for 1:00 p.m.
