Baseball, Softball Unveils 2017 Spring Schedule

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine— The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) Athletics Department has released the baseball and softball Spring schedules for the upcoming 2017 season.

Baseball

The reigning Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) baseball program opens up its 2017 campaign on the road with a six-game slate in Virginia as part of its spring trip beginning Sunday, March 12. The SeaWolves and first-year Head Coach Jordan Yanni will debut against the Apprentice School and match up against Thomas Nelson Community College and Bryant and Stratton College the same week.

SMCC will round out March with three more away dates featuring NJCAA Division III-opponent Holyoke Community College, Dean College, and Northern Essex Community College. The SeaWolves plan to host the University of Maine at Presque Isle in their home opener on Sunday, April 2 as part of a seven-game home stand spanning April 11. The third week in April is when SMCC will play five consecutive away dates, two against YSCC-opponent New Hampshire Technical Institute.

The SeaWolves will round out their regular season with a three-game conference slate in South Portland against Central Maine Community College before hosting the YSCC Championship Tournament on Saturday, May 6.

Softball

In his first season as Head Coach, Ray Magnant and the new-look softball program will play a 28-game schedule this spring season beginning with a double-header at Dean College on Sunday, March 26. SMCC will turn around to host Northern Essex Community College in its home opener and final play date in March.

The Lady SeaWolves will match up against Massasoit Community College Saturday, April 1 and welcome the University of Maine at Presque Isle the very next day. SUNY Delhi will come to town before SMCC begins conference play against defending YSCC champions College of St. Joseph (VT) in Rutland, Vt. on Friday, April 14.

SMCC will play its busiest stretch with five games in three days and dates against New Hampshire Technical Institute and Dean College starting Friday, April 21. The Lady SeaWolves will conclude their 2017 regular season against conference-opponent Central Maine Community College before hosting the YSCC Championship Tournament on Saturday, May 6.
