SMCC Athletics Enshrine Classes Of 2020/2021 Into Hall of Fame

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) Athletics enshrined both the classes of 2020 and 2021 to include seven individuals and one team to the SeaWolves Hall of Fame on Friday, May 27.

Nick Anagnostis, Ali Waterman, Jose Nouthanthavong, Alex Brown, Sonya O’Tash, Charlotte Lewis, and Michael Curtis joined an elite group of 36 other individuals for their accomplishments on the playing surface and for their service to the SMCC Athletics community. The 2008 Men’s Basketball Team was just the second team to be inducted, accompanied by the 1972 Men’s Basketball Team.

The 16th induction ceremony was held at the Portland Sheraton at Sable Oaks met with friends and family of the inductees in addition to support staff from the College. Associate Dean of Athletics and Alumni Affairs Matt Richards emceed the event among speeches from SeaWolves Athletic Club President and 2019 inductee Eric Bruneau and the honored guests of the event.

Richards summed up the event stating, “The wait was well worth it! After having to postpone the in-person Hall of Fame celebration the past two years, finally bringing everyone together was really a special moment. The comradery and abilities to reflect with each other about the accomplishments of the inductees was extraordinary. The inductees of the 2020 and 2021 Hall of Fame classes exemplify the very best of our student-athletes.”

 

2020

Nick Anagnostis (’07 Baseball)

Anagnostis is a 2007 Liberal Studies graduate and two-year member of the SeaWolves baseball program. During his seasons of play, Nick was named a First Team Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) selection and a United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Honorable Mention All-American in the same season (2006). His career was highlighted with back-to-back conference championships and all-time top 10 rankings to include a .421 batting average (3rd), 77 RBIs (4th), 80 hits (8th), and 5 home runs (T-8th).

 

Ali Waterman (’13 Women’s Soccer)

Waterman is a 2013 Liberal Studies- Art concentration graduate and three-year member of the women’s soccer program. A center back, Ali was the catalyst who helped the defensive unit to a sub 1.84 goals-against-average that held for the duration of her career and contributed to three straight YSCC postseason births. She was named team captain in 2013 and was selected a USCAA Honorable Mention All-American in the same season.

 

Jose Nouthanthavong (’14 Men’s Basketball)

Nouthanthavong is a 2014 Liberal Studies graduate and three-year member of the men’s basketball program. Sporting a decorated career, Jose ranks 2nd all-time with 470 career assists, 3rd all-time with 181 steals, and 10th with 434 rebounds from the point guard position. His efforts during the 2014 season garnered him YSCC First Team All-Conference and USCAA First Team All-American status. Jose continued his playing career at the University of Southern Maine and is currently playing professionally in the Thailand Basketball League.

 

2008 Men’s Basketball Team

The 2008 Men’s Basketball team is only the second team inducted into the SMCC Hall of Fame. The team finished the season with a 25-8 overall mark, which ranks the program tied for second in overall season wins. This team captured a YSCC championship and took home four YSCC All-Conference selections. The SeaWolves held a #1 ranking in the USCAA Coaches Poll for three consecutive weeks and earned an automatic bid to the USCAA National Tournament capped with a trip to the Final Four semi-final game—a feat only done twice in program history. SeaWolf guard Chris Banks was named a USCAA First Team All-American and was inducted into the USCAA National Hall of Fame in 2018.

 

2021

Alex Brown (’15 Baseball)

Brown played four seasons (2011-15) for the SeaWolves baseball program and ranks atop all major statistical categories. Brown is the program’s Hit King with 136; he also ranks first all-time in games played (129), at-bats (413), runs (93), and doubles (28), and second in triples (9), home runs (12), and RBI (86). As a catcher and outfielder, Brown was voted a two-time YSCC All-Conference selection, a 2014 USCAA First Team All-American, SMCC’s Carroll Rines Sports Person of the Year (2014), and was most recently named to the YSCC Twin Decades Team. To add to his personal achievements, Brown served as a three-year team captain and was crowned a three-time YSCC champion. Brown earned his associates degree in Architectural Engineering.

 

Sonya O’Tash (’09 Women’s Basketball)

O’Tash played two seasons (2007-09) as a contributing member of the women’s basketball program. As a forward, O’Tash led her team in points per game (PPG) both seasons—and in her second season was voted YSCC Player of the Year and a USCAA All-American. She helped lead her team to a total combined 27-3 YSCC record, a conference championship in 2008, and a national tournament appearance in the same season. Spanning her career with the SeaWolves, O’Tash averaged 15.5 PPG, 8.8 REB/G, 3.1 AST/G, and 2.5 STL/G; and by result a spot on the YSCC Twin Decades Team. O’Tash earned her associates degree in Liberal Studies.

 

Charlotte Lewis (’15 Softball)

Lewis played a total of three seasons dominating from the pitching circle for the SeaWolves Softball program (2011-12, 2013-15). She ranks first all-time in appearances (69) and games started (63), and second all-time in wins (21), complete games (45), innings pitched (360.1), and strikeouts (245). She was selected a three-time YSCC All-Conference player, a two-time USCAA All-American in 2014 and 2015, and was most recently named to the YSCC Twin Decades Team. Lewis helped her team to two conference championships in 2012 and 2014 when she was named YSCC Tournament MVP. Lewis earned her associates degree in Hospitality Management.

 

Michael Curtis (’13 Men’s Soccer)

Curtis was a member of the Men’s Soccer program for two years (2012-2013) serving the team as an energetic center back and captain in his final season. Curtis helped anchor a defensive unit that recorded a 0.93 goals against average (GAA) in 2012 and a 1.75 GAA in 2013. Spanning his career at SMCC, the SeaWolves tallied a 22-11-1 overall record—going 18-6-1 in conference play. Curtis went on to continue his career at Husson University where he played in every match and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education.
