SMCC Athletics 2023 Hall of Fame Class Announced

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—Southern Maine Community College Athletics and its Hall of Fame Selection Committee named three to join an elite group of 47 individuals and two teams for their accomplishments on the playing surface and in the college community. After careful consideration the committee will enshrine John Morgan, Anna Allard, and Amos Herrin as its class of 2023.

John Morgan (Men’s Basketball)
A three-year member of the men’s basketball program (2014-17), Morgan achieved both regional and national recognition as a Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) champion (’17), and a United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) National Tournament participant (’15, ’17). The small forward was named First Team All-Conference, YSCC Player of the Year, conference tournament MVP, and a First Team All-American in the same season. Morgan captained the program for two seasons and was honored with the department’s Carrol Rines Sports Person of the Year award in 2017. The Maine native transferred to Thomas College to continue his playing career and achieve 1,000 career points. Morgan continues to service the basketball community as the Head Varsity Basketball Coach at Noble High School.

Anna Allard (Softball)
A two-year member of the softball program (2014-15), Allard led her team to a YSCC championship in 2014. She was named to the All-Conference team in both seasons, and voted a USCAA Honorable Mention All-American in 2014. In addition to the hardware, the shortstop logged a career .443 batting average, a .495 on-base percentage, and a .695 slugging percentage. Allard recorded 77 hits, 32 extra-base hits, 30 RBIs and 61 runs spanning 174 at-bats. A resident of West Bath, she currently serves the Falmouth Fire and EMS Department as Lieutenant Paramedic.

Amos Herrin (Baseball)
A three-year member of the baseball program (2015-18) and a three-time YSCC champion. Herrin contributed as a starting pitcher and as an exceptional shortstop— he was voted a two-time All-Conference selection and YSCC Pitcher of the Year in 2018. Herrin was dominant in post-season play at the plate and in the field, namely as Offensive Player of the Tournament (’17) and Tournament MVP (’18). Herrin was both a First Team USCAA All-American and an Academic All-American in 2018, and led the nation in strikeouts (108) and k/9 (13.82) in the same season. During his time at SMCC, Herrin racked up 178 career strikeouts (2nd all-time) spanning 147.0 innings pitched and 10.9 k/9 (1st all-time). As a hitter, he totaled a .317 career average in 208 at-bats. Herrin was selected to the YSCC Twin Decades Team, a collection of the most talented players since the inception of the conference. Today, Herrin works as an electrician here in Maine.
