Matt Richards To Be Inducted Into USCAA Hall of Fame

PORTLAND, Maine— The United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) has announced Associate Dean of Athletics and Alumni Affairs Matt Richards to be inducted to the 2022 Class of the USCAA Hall of Fame at this year’s national convention in Portland.

A much deserving honor at the highest level of recognition, Richards has been an active member of the USCAA national office for 16 years. He was elected to the Board of Directors in 2006 and since that time has served in various capacities to include Vice President of Marketing, Eligibility Chair, and President of the Board of Directors. Having fulfilled his term as President, Richards continues his involvement as Interim Eligibility/Compliance Coordinator.

Richards received the prestigious Commissioner’s Award for his outstanding service and dedication to the USCAA (2009) and most recently earned recognition as the association’s Athletic Director of the Year (2021) for the second time in his career. He is currently the President of the Yankee Small College Conference.

Further, Richards has achieved many successes as a coach and administrator at Southern Maine Community College. As Head Men’s Basketball Coach, he has amassed a program-best 327 wins and captured the College’s first ever team national championship in 2022. In his role as Director of Athletics, Richards has developed SeaWolves athletics into one of the most competitive small college programs in New England. During his tenure, SMCC has won 32 conference championships and has made 31 USCAA National Tournament appearances.

The Hall of Fame Ceremony will feature seven inductees and be held Sunday, June 5 at the Holiday Inn by the Bay in Portland.
