NORFOLK, Va.— In the release of the final regular season United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) basketball coaches poll on Friday, Feb. 10, the Southern Maine Community College women rank third and the men sixth among all Division II programs in the association.
The SMCC women received 240 total points, nine points shy of top-ranked Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) rival Central Maine Community College, for the third spot in the coaches’ poll. The third other YSCC teams receiving rankings were: University of Maine at Augusta (7) up two spots from last week’s poll, New Hampshire Technical Institute (9), and the College of St. Joseph’s (VT) (15) down one.
On the men’s side, SMCC received a total of 270 points to remain in the sixth position, and better than any YSCC team, for the third consecutive week. Among the three other YSCC programs making the poll were: NHTI (9) down one, CMCC (10), with Vermont Technical College (T-18) making an appearance. Berkeley College (NY) remains the unanimous point-getter and top team in the Division II national rankings.
Locking up the two-seeds in the YSCC Elite 8 Tournament, both the SMCC men and women round out their regular season at VTC on Saturday, Feb. 11 as a final tune-up before making their playoff push.
