Lauren Kiss: Student-Athlete Spotlight

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—Lauren Kiss is ready to embark on a new journey— that is to be a member of the inaugural Southern Maine Community College women’s volleyball program.

A Pre-Nursing major and second semester student at the College, Kiss looks ahead to the opportunity on the court, “I chose SMCC because the volleyball program was in its first year. To me, it’s exciting to be apart of something new and build relationships with teammates and coaches that will leave its mark on the legacy of the program.”

Kiss hails from Lyman, Maine and attended Massabesic High School where she too was a member of a first-year varsity volleyball program. During her time at Massabesic, Kiss earned many accolades to include the Mustang and Aces Awards and Team MVP. She captained the team and was named a Southwestern Maine Activities Association (SMAA) All-Conference selection her senior season.

At five feet nine inches tall, Kiss is a versatile player that can fill in at the outside hitter, middle, and center positions. SMCC’s Head Coach Nicole Kane commented, “Lauren is an extremely dedicated and hardworking athlete. No matter what we are working on in practice, she gives it 110 percent. She is positive and motivating to all of her teammates. In our small sessions, she always has a smile on her face [under her mask of course] and is just happy to be playing a sport she loves.”

The women’s volleyball program is set to begin its first season in the fall and make it a five-team race in Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) scheduling. Those interested in being apart of the action should complete the Recruit Me form or contact Coach Kane at nkane@smccme.edu.
