Three Seawolves Earn All-Conference Honors

Three basketball student-athletes represented Southern Maine Community College on the 2012 Yankee Small College Conference All-Conference men's and women's basketball teams. Freshmen Katelyn Benson (Westbrook, ME) and Marissa Welch (Livermore, ME) and senior Josh Mackie (South Portland, ME) earned YSCC All-Conference honors as announced at the YSCC Elite Eight Tournament banquet over the weekend.

  Katelyn Benson #11

Benson averaged 13.7 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.2 steals per game in her freshman season.  She represented SMCC as the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) National Player of the Week on November 8th after a decisive 88-47 victory over Naval Academy Prep.  In that game, Benson contributed 24 points on 11 of 15 shooting, 9 rebounds and 2 steals in just 27 minutes of play.   

  Marissa Welch #24

Welch averaged double-double figures for the Seawolves with 11.8 points and 10.2 rebounds per game. She was selected as the YSCC Player of the Week following a dominating 24 point, 18 rebound performance at UMaine-Machias on November 27th.  

  Josh Mackie #23

This is Mackie’s second all-conference honor. He averaged 15.3 points per game in his senior season, shooting 42.3% from behind the 3-point arc.  He also became the 16th player in SMCC basketball history to reach the 1000th point milestone after his 28-point performance against Central Maine Community College on December 14th.
