Seawolves rally back to beat NHTI in Conference Semis; Lose in bottom of seventh to Knights in Conference Final

SOUTH PORTLAND, ME – Southern Maine Community College Seawolves defeat New Hampshire Technical Institute to reach YSCC Conference Finals, 7-4.

New Hampshire Technical Institute drove in 3 runs in the first inning to take the early lead.  Seawolves pitcher, Mustafa Jamal (Gorham, ME) regained his composure as he pitched a complete game. The Seawolves bats finally came to life in the 5th inning to take the lead for good.  Adam Hamilton (Westbrook, ME) and Christian Giles (Dexter, ME) each had 2 RBI’s for the Seawolves.

Conference Final

The Vermont Technical College Knights squeeze by the Seawolves (13-21 Overall, 8-8 YSCC) in the bottom of the 7th, 6-5, to win the 2011 YSCC Conference Championship.

The Knights jumped out to a 5-0 lead after the 3rd inning. The Seawolves bats started to heat up as they rallied in the 6th inning to tie the game. The Seawolves loaded the bases in the top of the 7th but could not take advantage of their opportunity. The knights loaded the bases up in the bottom of the 7th and a double by Nick Vorvis knocked in the winning run to end the game.

Making the All Tournament team today as defensive player was sophomore, Jeremy Gearty (Lebanon, ME).

The Seawolves will be back in action this weekend as they host the USCAA National baseball championship in Old Orchard Beach, ME, May 13-18th.
