South Portland, ME -Southern Maine Community College and Central Maine Community College will play host to the 2011 United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) 2011 Baseball Small College World Series at the historic Old Orchard Beach Ball Park Friday, May 13 through Wednesday, May 18.
After a great inaugural season where the Ball Park was brought back to life, local volunteers businesses and services play host to the USCAA Small College World Series in one of Maine's most popular tourist destinations. Ten college teams will compete for the national title in the double elimination tournament sponsored by the Normandy Ocean-front Motor Inn.
Sanctioned by the National USCAA in Newport News, Virginia; the week starts with an Academic & Athletic Luncheon for all athletes, a parade of teams, and a Home Run Derby to top off the first day's activities. Saturday, May 14 starts the official tournament completion featuring "OOB365 in the Park"! OOB365 is composed of businesses and community minded citizens demonstrating that the destination is a year-round attraction for all types of active visitors. Food vendors, professional displays and services will bring a full day of activities to the tournament.
Sunday, May 15 is "The Great American Pastime Day" at the ball park, featuring all admission tickets at $1.00 instead of the standard $3.00 per person, The fall back price is reminiscent of when the semi-professional baseball team, the Maine Guides, played regulation games at the ball park in the 1970's. Attendees will have the opportunity to see three great games both Saturday & Sunday starting at 1:00 PM, 3:30 PM and 6:00 PM.
