SMCC Hires New Assistant Baseball Coach

SOUTH PORTLAND, ME – Southern Maine Community College Athletic Director Matt Richards announces the hiring of Keil Martin as the new assistant baseball coach.  Martin will coach under long time head baseball coach Phil Desjardins (15 seasons).  Martin comes from St. Joseph’s College (ME) where he was the assistant varsity coach as well as head junior varsity coach.  Prior to coaching at St. Joseph’s, Martin assisted both baseball and boys soccer at Thornton Academy where he currently teaches Physical Education.

A native of Saco, Maine, Martin is a 2007 graduate from St. Joseph’s College with a degree in Physical Education. While attending St. Joseph’s, Martin was a four year varsity player in the outfield for Coach Will Sandborn; and earned the honor of captainship his senior season.

Martin aspires to become a collegiate head coach some day and he is excited about his opportunity here at SMCC.  “I am excited to help build on the current success of the baseball program and develop players who will move on to the next level” said Martin.

“Keil is a perfect fit for our baseball program,” stated Richards.  “His past success as a player and recent experience coaching will certainly be a tremendous addition.”
