South Portland, ME. The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) baseball team earned 2 victories today against Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) opponent Eastern Maine Community College (EMCC). The Seawolves' pitching came up big in the first game as freshman Nate McKeown (Biddeford, ME) shut down the Golden Eagles only allowing 3 hits leading the Seawolves a 9-0 win. In the second game of the double header, the Seawolves were down 2 runs and pulled off a double steal with 2 outs that led to a 2 out single to tie it up by freshman catcher Jon Daniszewski (Laconia, NH). Michael Calabrese (Dover, NH) then knocked in a run with a 2 out triple to give the Seawolves the lead. Calabrese then stole home for an insurance run that gave SMCC a 6-4 victory.
In the first game of the double header, the Seawolves were led by sophomore catcher Alex Brown (Weymouth, MA) who went 4 for 4 that included 3 doubles and a triple. Brown also contributed 3 RBI's and 2 runs scored. Freshman right fielder Austen Keenan (New Gloucester, ME) went 2 for 3 with an RBI and a scored run. Pitcher Nate McKeown (Biddeford, ME) picked up the win.
In the second game, SMCC was led by freshman catcher Jon Daniszewski (Laconia, NH) who went 2 for 3 with 2 RBI's, a run scored and the game tying double. Freshman shortstop Ethan Bilderback (Annapolis, MD) added a couple hits, an RBI and a run scored. Pitcher Daniel French (Richmond, VT) got the win with pitcher Corey Monjiat (Waterboro, ME) getting the save.
With the 2 wins today, SMCC improves to 14-12-1 overall and 7-1 in the Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC). The Seawolves will travel to Dean College tomorrow April 7th for a double header. Games are scheduled for 1:00pm and 3:00pm.
