South Portland, ME. The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) baseball team hosted their second double header in 2 days. The University of Maine Presque Isle (UMPI) came to town today and swept the Seawolves. In the first game with the score tied 3 to 3, the Seawolves gave up a 3 run home run in the top of the 7th inning to lose 6-3. In the second game, SMCC fell apart as they gave up 17 runs in the final 4 innings of the game to lose 20-4.
To lead the way for the Seawolves in the first game was freshman first baseman Zachary Horton (South Portland, ME) who went 2 for 2 at the plate with 2 RBI's and a walk. Freshman third baseman Jason Weatherbee (Wiscasset, ME) went 1 for 3 and scored a run. Freshman pitcher Corey Mongiat (Waterboro, ME) picked up the loss.
In the second game, the SMCC was led in a losing effort by junior second baseman Jeremy Gearty (Lebanon, ME) who went 2 for 4 in the game and also scored a run. Sophomore catcher Alex Brown (Weymouth, MA) and sophomore outfielder Michael Calabrese (Dover, NH) each went 1 for 3 at the plate, scored a run and drew a walk. Combined Brown and Calabrese had 3 RBI's while Calabrese also had 2 stolen bases. Freshman pitcher Jason Weatherbee (Wiscasset, ME) took the loss.
With both losses today, SMCC drops to 15-19-1 overall and remain at 7-1 in the Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC). The Seawolves will have some time off before the University of Maine Presque Isle (UMPI) comes back to town for 2 more games. The double header is scheduled for Friday April 19th with the games starting at 2:00pm and 4:00pm.
